DU Earns Reaccreditation from Higher Learning Commission

֦Ƶ’s status as an accredited institution continues.
The Institutional Actions Council of the Higher Learning Commission on July 3 reaffirmed the university’s accreditation for another 10 years.
The decision came following an extensive review of the university, its mission and its practices, and included a two-day visit to the River Forest Campus by the five-member HLC peer review team for meetings with faculty, staff, students and leaders. A 100-page assurance argument, compiled by ֦Ƶ faculty and staff as a basis for reaccreditation, was submitted to the team for consideration.
֦Ƶ has held accreditation since 1919.
The HLC considers five criteria when reviewing a college or university for reaccreditation, including how the institutional mission is followed and if students are provided with quality teaching, resources and support. The assurance argument outlined all the ways DU meets these criteria.
“Accreditation is important because it demonstrates that the university is providing students with an exceptional education,” said Elizabeth Silk, director of institutional research and chair of the reaccreditation steering committee at ֦Ƶ. “Accreditation is required for students to receive federal student aid and for the university to access federal funds. It also ensures that the academic credits and credentials earned by our students are recognized beyond the university and are transferable.”
DU’s next reaccreditation review will take place in 2034-35.
